One of the more developed areas of music's contribution, and definitely music therapy's contribution to peace building, is in the area of trauma healing. I thought this would be a good space to share and explore ways in which music therapy has been used and is being used in trauma healing.
Excellent question. Actually the US military is ready to get serious about the power of music and the arts… in order to heal traumatized US soldiers.
Please read this short piece, it's really worth it.
Looking forward to hearing from everyone on this.

Thank you for sharing Olivier. This is indeed an interesting piece. I have two thoughts in response to reading it. The first thought is that, while I am glad that the US military is investing in programs to help traumatized soldiers (tragically far too often there is plenty of money spent on new weapons and hardly anything on caring for the traumatized soldiers and veterans), I wonder whether soldiers would feel the freedom to truly express their thoughts and emotions at a military center. Would they be free to express anti-military sentiments if they felt them? If not, I am concerned that a project aimed at healing could possibly cause more harm and isolation.
On the other hand, as a music therapist, I am pleased that there is more research looking at brain responses to music and art. We definitely need more of this.
